According to NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), the boat carried around 27 occupants at the time of incident. Among which 19 children and 4 teachers were pulled out and rushed to nearby hospitals. A search operation is still in process, for four missing children. Vadodara lake Incident is a clear negligence of life.

Those who were pulled out of the water were taken to nearby hospitals, among which five were declared dead, whereas one of them is still undergoing treatment. Officials of the Vadodara Emergency and Fire Service department as well as the office bearers of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), the police and District Collector Atul Gor rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, a tweet from the official handle of the Prime Minister’s Office announced compensation for the deceased and the injured. “Distressed by the loss of lives due to a boat capsizing at the Harni lake in Vadodara. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 PM @narendramodi,” the tweet read.

Gujarat Chief Minister; Bhupendra Patel, too, reached out on the spot and interacted with various officials and locals who helped in rescuing the children and bodies. Bhupendra Patel earlier wrote on X; “The incident of the boat overturning in Harni Lake in Vadodara is heartrending. I pray for the souls of the innocent children, who have been killed in the accident. I send my condolences to the families who are in pain at this time and May God grant them the strength to bear this pain. The administration is working on rescuing the children and teachers. We have directed the administration to ensure immediate relief and treatment to those who have become victim of this Vadodara lake Incident .”

Dr Sheetal Mistry, Standing Committee Chairperson of the VMC, said, “The children had arrived at the lake at 4.30 pm and accompanied by their teachers, they boarded the boat in the lake zone. The children were wearing life jackets but the reports indicate that 24 persons were made to sit in one boat which otherwise has a capacity to carry just 16 passengers. In case of children drowning, even two or three minutes of delay underwater can result in death.” Vadodara lake Incident has put all the human feeling restless.

Leaders of Opposition in the VMC Ami Ravat also arrived at the spot. Ravat said, “It is a painful accident which happened because of criminal negligence by the contractor as well as the officers, who should have supervised the site. The police must book a case of culpable homicide against all those who are responsible for this.”
